Wow how the time flies when you are a year around bowhunter! It seems like just yesterday we were headed afield to chase those longbeards and now here we are almost the 4th of July. I have had so many great days in the outdoors since my last blog, which was way too long ago. Once again turkey hunting was off the charts and we had some incredible hunts.
Turkey tags for the most part were filled and then it was on to one of my favorites. Bowfishing! We had some great days on the water and we were able to fill the freezers with bighead. We even had a bowfishing bachelor party for Jake Runyan and I promise you we couldn't have any more fun than we did on the river.
Can't ever get enough of this! Nothing like spending time with friends and family chasing fish.
After our bighead run it was time to refocus on big game as we were headed to Idaho to hunt bears in late June in the high elevations. What a great time we had on this trip as Zach and Matt both connected on two bears. The country that we were hunting in was absolutely gorgeous! What really made this trip special was the people that we spent time with as it was constant laughter and smiles. We hunted over baits that my buddy had worked his butt off in getting them established. We saw lots of bears and several different color phases. Zach and Matt both scored on their second evening and by the time we had both bears skinned and quartered it was nearly 4:30 a.m. when we headed for the tent. The crisp mountain air along with tired legs made for some great sleeping. Zach and Matt each bought a second tag and only an hour into his sit that evening Zach connected on a nice chocolate boar. Our last evening I sat with our buddy Hunter and Zach sat with Matt. Although Hunter and I saw a giant a swirling wind ended our hopes. When we met up with the other boys Matt had good news as he had shot another nice color phased bear. We spent the last two days hanging out and relaxing and just enjoying the country and the company. One of the best trips of our lives! Thanks again Hunter!!
With our bear hunt over my focus will now be towards Halsey and the NBA Jamboree. I encourage all of you that have never been to a Jamboree or maybe haven't been there in a while to make the commitment to come. I promise you won't regret it! I hope to see you there and I will either have some fried bighead, bear steak, or a cold one for you. I may even tell a story or two!
